You can use either an edit word as Hans posted:

  %editw( num: ' $0. ')

or an edit code with an optional currency symbol:

  %editc( num: 'A': *CURSYM) or %edit( num: 'A': '$' )

Either of these may have leading blanks, but the currency symbol will float.
You can put the whole thing inside %triml() to avoid the leading blanks, or
%trim() if you also want to trim trailing blanks for positive numbers.

If you don't care about the specific edit code, you could also use:

  '$' + %char( num )
