In this case it's just a matter of implementation. MSQuery can create a separate query definition, which would be required in order to have the data update as needed, as you've experienced. But, as I said, it can also store the definition "inside" the worksheet. Closest and quickest comparison would be the requirement of SQL/400 in order to compile an RPG/SQL program, but isn't necessary to run the program. Bill
