... as much as it irritates me to be asked "are you sure?", it sounds like
there is still a fairly strong case for it; deleting an unsaved journal
receiver is the only one on AS400 that readily comes to mind.

I did something like that one time on the S/38:

I was testing some major modifications to a new system, and I typed CLRPFM
xxxx to clear the company master file in what I thought was the test
environment.  After pressing <Enter>, however, I realized (too late) that I
was in the production system.

I tried SysReq+2+<Enter> (this was dumb terminal days) to cancel out of the
CLRPFM, but the system gave back a message that  read "Cancel request
delayed until internal operation is complete".

When the internal operation (clearing the file) was complete.  I had to get
everyone off the system and restore the file.  Luckily it was a somewhat
static file and it only caused about an hour of downtime, most of which was
spent trying to get everybody signed off so I could restore the file.
