We received a new 9406-270 with v5r2 loaded last week. I've had a devil of a time getting things working properly (thanks to whomever installed the cards in the wrong slots). I need some help resolving a few issues with the new box: I have configured TCP/IP on the new iSeries with address 192.168.30.11, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 (I also have a v4r5 box, with WinNT Server 4.0 (sp6a) on its INS working flawlessly). 1. I have installed Windows NT Server 4.0 (SP6a) on the INS, TCP/IP address 192.168.30.20, subnet mask 255.255.255.0. It works beautifully - except that I can't ping the new iSeries. I can ping every other device (including the v4r5 box that the v5r2 box is replacing). I can ping the NT box from the iSeries, just can't go the other way. I installed iSeries Access for Windows v5r2m0 (with latest service pack) and was unable to establish a session with the new iSeries system. I am able to establish a session with the old v4r5 box (at address 192.168.30.13) from the new INS, and I can establish a session with my new v5r2 system from any other PC - just not from the WinNT in the new box. I told my BP about this, and some tech there asked 'Why would you want to ping your 400 from the NT side? And why would you want to install Client Access on it (the NT Server box)? That's never been supported.' Is this true - am I banned from accessing my iSeries from Windows on the INS? If not true, what do I need to do to get it working like I need? It works without a hitch on my v4r5 box and its' NT. 2. Surely related: I open a DOS session on the new WinNT box, and attempt to FTP to the iSeries (C:\>ftp 192.168.30.20). I get an FTP message saying that the connection timed out. 3. When attempting to FTP to my new WinNT box from either of my iSeries boxes (ftp '192.168.30.11'), I'm prompted for the user id and password, which I supply. I'm immediately given a message in the iSeries FTP session: 530 Not able to set ASP group for user TOM; logon rejected.' - what's that all about? This does not happen when I FTP to the WinNT on the v4r5 box. 4. How do I copy my SSL settings from the v4r5 box to our new v5r2 box? Tom Hightower Solutions, Inc http://www.simas.com
