I looked at this but thought it was very expensive. IBM were happy to lease me an iSeries 270 and at first sight it seemed like a good deal. But then I calculated how much I was going to pay IBM over the next 3 years, after which the machine would be returned to IBM and I would own nothing. I could, of course, start another lease!! I would paying all that money, and not owning anything at the end of the day. I did like that idea. Unfortunately, here in the UK, IBM were not prepared to offer a purchase option. I also needed a machine I could use for business purposes, and the IBM offering is strictly development/demo. I decided instead to lease/purchase a second hand 270. The total price of the 270 is less than the sum I would otherwise be paying IBM, and the rate of interest is low. It is a 2 year payment deal, after which I have an asset I can keep, sell, or trade in for an upgrade.
