and yes, I'm looking at buying another system soon. It is cheaper to get
current on my software on the 40S which gets me up to V5R1.

However, I probably won't even install it on the 40S.  I just want to
transfer the software subscription & LPP's to another system, and it is
cheaper to go this route than buy all of the software again.

FYI, remember that the 40S will never go beyond V5R1, so getting a 3-year SS
is
silly unless you intend to transfer the subscription to a future box.  I
bought
my 40S at V3R6 and left it at V3R7 for quite awhile while having to code to
V3R2
compatibility levels. Then I did a one-year SS during the time window that
allowed me to get V4R4 as a step install to move to V4R5, and order V5R1
before
the year was up.   Then I let SS expire again since it has no future value
to me
on my 40S.  Made my total software cost since 1996 pretty cheap.

But Steve's question was on the 150, not the 40S, and the license terms are
different on the 150.  Always have been.  It was the first box to allow
moving
the OS license with the box, even prior to V4.  And the software priced even
below P05 levels (as I recall).

But it never allowed software subscription.  There was much wailing and
gnashing
of teeth about this in years past.  Search the archives.
