This is a huge step - a whole new application anyway you choose. WowWWW! :) Here is a thought for your planning: Do NOT rush, take a minimum of a few months to survey and do site visits. Attend a few conferences. Budget some realistic amount of money for travel and for advisors. Let your guys run with a couple of wild ideas, make a few proof-of-concept ideas. Be realistic in your expectations, have specific questions, check references Listen between the lines, listen for what isn't being said. Watch out for the glamor and glitz, don't be swayed by smooth-talking sales people from the big city. Beware the Power Point Presentation. Ask questions like: "How long have you been in this job? What were you doing before?" Ask Carson Soule to come and talk to your team, or ask him where he's speaking and take your team to listen to him. This guy is good. He's clear, and he has a ton of experience with exactly what you are doing. He is an AS/400 bigot like the rest of us, but that only proves the rightness of his mind.
