To extend Leif's thought, if you NEED security, don't use a computer! It will
always be possible to construct an argument that NO computer system (hardware
or software) is invulnerable. Those of the list who argue the cost/benefit
tradeoff for business security have valid point for most normal business - how
much are you willing to pay to incur a given level of security? However, when
human life, national defense, or information socially considered private is
present, the stakes may be higher and the need for higher levels of assurance
grows. But, even in those scenarios, history has shown us that we must not
delude ourselves into believing that systems controlling this type of
information are secure from attack. There will always be a way to subvert
hardware, software or human controls.
