The second statement is not a Cartesian join.  The syntax is fine, since
adding the logical view caused the second statement to execute just as
quickly as the first.

It's simply a matter that the SQL processor is doing something non-obvious,
so that even though the two syntaxes are similar they are doing very
different things.
