Dan, CPYTOSTMF would be my preference, but you need a little prep work to make it happen. The main problem is this command won't work for externally described files, so you must copy the data to a non-described file first. CRTPF FILE(LIBX/FILEX) RCDLEN(xxx) CPYF ..............
