I did finally turn on logging, 500 pages of this- every second, or twice a
second for 7 hours
Job name . . . . . . . . . . : QTVDEVICE User . . . . . . : QTCP
Job description . . . . . . : QTGSTELN Library . . . . . : QTCP
 CPF8902 Information 40 11/22/02 23:16:43 QPADEVS
QSYS 151D QTVSINI3 QSYS 00FE
                                      Message . . . . : Virtual device GL
not available.
                                      Cause . . . . . : The virtual device
GL is in use by another job. Recovery
                                        . . . : The virtual device
specified is not currently available. Wait
until the job that is currently
using it has ended, or use another virtual
device not currently in use by
another job. Then try the request again.

Putting the device on "hold" has stopped it.
GL is a printer, the writer gors active, but there are no spools in queue.
I think it's going to be a thin client with a printer port that's sending
the signal. But the 400 is thrashing itself trying to contact a device.
Also - wrkobjlck shows no job with a lock on device GL.
Will release hold after cume applied, and check again.
