If you're on V5R2 there is a new API specifically for this purpose --
Retrieve Identity of Last Spool File Created (QSPRILSP). This API, and
several others that existed on previous releases, can be found in the
Information Center under Programming/APIs/APIs by Category/Print/Spooled
File APIs.

Hi,
Is there a way to retrieve the spool file number (spool file attributes),
AFTER the RPG report program has completed generating the report and ended
with LR=*On, with no change to the RPG program? When the RPG ends, I know
the job name, user, job#, file name, and *LAST as the spool file number.
Is there a way to convert the *LAST to the actual spool file number, in the
batch job? I know about the INDFS and all that, but I can't modify the RPG
program itself. I need this information in the program immediately
following the RPG report program in the jobstream.
Thoughts?
TIA
