Jim -

I suspect that your boss is thinking of the system value QRCLSPLSTG. This
specifies the number of days before empty spooled members are deleted
automatically. I don't believe that this has anything to do with an IPL,
though. To reduce the size of QSPL I think that you'll have to actually
delete some spool files.

Could he be confusing this with the Maximum unprotect field on the WRKSYSVAL
screen? That shows the highest amount of temp storage used since the last
IPL.

Background : 75Gigs of DASD
             85% Used
             QSPL is nearly 9 gigs

My boss wants to incorporate a nightly powerdown/restart
pwrdwnsys option(*immed) restart(*yes) into the nightly
backup to clear up used spool file space or cleanup qspl in general.

1) is there such a process to do this already built into the IPL

He says the answer is yes...but only every so many IPL's
Does it actually "flip the switch" and run this process.

I told him that sounds strange...either it should do it
Every time or not.

So which one of is more crazy?

P.S. I don't want to hear about RGPFM or any other command
That will save space...we know about those.
I just was curious about the spool file cleanup process
During a restart.

Thanks,

Jim
