I have to tell you that the head of our Division has traditionally been very available. Buell frequently answered his own phone. When I've needed access to the person in Buell/Al's job, I've always gotten in. Many years ago, an IBM employee asked me do to something which I considered to not be totally moral, and I called Bill Zeitler looking for advice (when he had that job). I was informed that Bill was unavailable for the day. I indicated to his assistant that it was imperative that I speak to him immediately. I got a phone call back 45 seconds later. I was (mebbe Ya thin'?...;-) a bit on edge and more-than-a-little over-cynical when I replied (below). Would-a liked to phrase the question as follows: Steve, Have You had any personal dealings with the Head of a multi-billion dollar international company (which is what the iSeries Division is)...? Well, You've had at least one, because Mr. Duncan made Himself SO accessible to the Community. Starting the iNation and going on the iChats to take questions from any-and-all comers.. ..well Mr. Duncan gambles His career with those kinds-a decisions. I dunno how much Mr. Duncan was involved with bringing Mr. Haines back to the iSeries Division. But it did happen under His watch and, as others have said, is GREAT.. for both the Division and the Server Group... Mr. Haines may not be technical, but the posts on this forum lament the marketing (rightly or wrongly) MUCH more than the technical deficiencies of the iSeries. I dunno what all this means for the iSeries product... But either way would wish Mr. Duncan all the best-o-luck in His (what is essentially an) inter-company transfer and, presumably, additional responsibilites. (Especially since it might be good news to have a real STRONG 400 advocate!, over in the "enemy camp" (note: <yust a yoke>) at Software Group...;-) Belatedly and hopefully more Respectfully Steve, jt | [mailto:midrange-l-bounces@midrange.com]On Behalf Of jt | Sent: Thursday, January 09, 2003 12:05 AM | | | You got the talents to run a multi-billion dollar international company | Yourself Steve, (which is what the iSeries Division is)...??? | | "Respectfully"...?!? You obviously have no idea what the head of the | iSeries Division | is responsible for. | | It's a little more than just being charged with implementing Your | wish-list | to turn RPG into C, Steve. | _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo.cgi/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
