To answer a few of the questions that have been asked.

Since I am not physically at the college right now, I have been unable to
look, and have not received a response to some of the e-mails I have sent.
But here goes.

There are no Twinax devices connected to the system. I am not sure, but I
believe that the console is connected via a serial connection. And there
is no device that seems to be able to connect. Since we IPL with the
"white button" we will always get an abnormal last power down. Disk
capacity is less then 40% used.
The DHCP poses an interesting concept as they did some major changes to the
network over the holiday break, however if the console is connected via a
serial connection I would expect that to remain up.
In the cases I have looked at, there appears to be no one actually working
on the system when the connection drops, so I have no job logs to look at.
So far, we have not identified any kind of a pattern that we can monitor
for.
