AFAIK, the only reasonable ways of doing that are to look at each PC to see 
what the file associations are and use whatever extension seems best for your 
environment (including defining your own association) or to create a 'Scrap 
Object' or similar workaround. That is, if you sent a .CSV file to me, it 
wouldn't open with Excel automatically. Every PC can be different.

OTOH, a .XLS file _would_ open with Excel on this system; but you probably 
wouldn't want to use that extension because of the implied internal structure 
and possible misunderstandings.

Whatever extension you use, be aware that there will be no guarantees. I'd 
guess that .CSV is as good as you'll get.
