I hope you removed and backup tapes before you started the D IPL. The
system will read a tape in the alternate IPL device before it looks for
the CD. If you have a long backup tape in the system (that does not start
with a SAVSYS) it could spend an hour or more (depending on tape type and
amount of data on it) reading the entire tape looking for a file to IPL
from, before it reaches the end and goes to look at the CD drive.

This is very bizarre.

I did the following:

PWRDWNSYS OPTION(*IMMED) RESTART(*YES) IPLSRC(D)

with my I_BASE_01 disk in the optical drive. The machine hunkered down
and
IPLed for a while. I expected that the next thing I would see would be
the
Licensed Internal Code - Status display and then the machine would ask for
a
bunch more disks.

It did not. Instead, the next thing I saw was a signon screen on the
console.

So I logged on as QSECOFR, and did a WRKACTJOB to see what was up. I
immediately got an MCH error. Not a good sign, methinks.

So, now I'm trying to reIPL and see what happens.

The saga continues!

Joe
