Dan, I would create a working storage data structure to hold the record contenct (use the copy dds command and prefix WS- perhaps) and then use the READ file-name INTO ws- data structure, delete the record just read, change the key fields, then WRITE record-name FROM ws- data structure. This way you won't lose the information. I wish IBM would give us a way to update the keys without having to delete first. The OPM had FS21DUPKEY (If I remember correctly) that would allow for key changes. ILE does not. You might want to post your question or comments on the COBOL list.
