I remember a package from years ago that would allow you to update a Lotus spreadsheet stored on your iSeries. For example you could call their API from your RPG program passing it what the name of the file was, the row of the cell, the column of the cell, and the value you wanted to store in that cell was. Danged if I can remember the name of that. Granted, it was Lotus, but as many years ago as that was, if they are still in business I am sure they would have an Excel version out by now. CSV won't work here, the user absolutely, positively will not accept anything but an honest-to-god XLS file. And we want to generate and e-mail the XLS file with no user intervention, so the package would need a command interface. I know about SEQUEL, but my boss thinks it's too pricey. I'm working on learning Java, so I once I feel comfortable with it, I suppose I could use HSSF, but I'm going to scare people if I make them call Java programs from RPG.
