Is there a redbook or website link > that would help me prepare in investigating what steps are necessary to do the restore this way. Jim - See the Backup and Recovery Guide (SC41-5304-05): http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r1/ic2924/books/c4153045.pdf Chapters 3 thru 14 are all about restoring from a backup. Alternatively, there are ways of pumping the data from the old drives to the new if you have room to mount the new drives in the system while keeping the old drives installed, thus possibly avoid having to restore from tape. You should check to see if IBM can do this. If you use option 21, I would perform the option 21 backup twice using NEW tapes, making TWO sets of backup tapes, cleaning the tape drive very well before starting and possibly in between tapes, if necessary. There's nothing worse than getting a media error when you are trying to restore a system from scratch... HTH Steve Landess Austin, Texas (512) 423-0935
