Some things need to be known before you go to this extreme:

FIRST = how much space to you have available. i.e. how full are your
   disks?

H= owever, this is likely the steps I would follow:

   1) Do a save 21 (Saf= ety net in case of DASD failure)

   2) Do the math on how many drives (s= ans RAID) will be needed to hold all
your stuff.(Of course any amount of cl= eanup that can be done will help
   here)

   3) In DST Stop RAID

   4) i= n DST Remove as many 4GB drives from the config as you can.

   5) Physic= ally pull those drives and install as many 17G units as
possible. Resonabe = to expect that the new 17s will hold the entire
   sytem.

   6) in DST Migr= ate the load source to one of the new 17s

   7) in Add the 17s to the sy= stem ASP followedd by remove the remaining 4s

   8) Swap the drives

<= P>9) Add the 17s to the ASP and start RAID

   10) IPL and STRASPBAL

<= P>This way you lose nothing. You also don't watch tapes spin for
   hours.
     Have Fun!

= Subject: Migrating Data to new DASD</F= ONT>

   Jeffrey,
   Do two= (2) Save-21 first.
Pull the old drives out, mark where they came from (= this gives you a
   perfect
   CYA)
   Install the drives
   Restore-21
   </F= ONT>
DO NOT attempt a "pump" = using two different size drives.
I've been there, tried that, and had to= reload from tape anyway.
   This WILL NOT work.
Follow the backup and recovery guide, complete syste= m failure option (I
   believe).
The only thing that I know that you'll lose is your spool files.
