I'll try that when I am up there today, but my feeling is that it sees the
devices because (1) they have left hand cursor and (2) when I deleted
EVERYTHING it recreated the devices and wouldn't it have to be seeing those
to do that ? Or does it store that info to the diskette and then "reread" it
? I would think the former (?)

can you boot the perle in config mode?  Then press alt-test on a terminal to
make sure the controller sees the terminals. That would confirm that the
twinax card in the perle is still working.

also, Perle tech support was always very good whenever I used to call them
with problems like this.
