A few thoughts...

1) What's the viability of the existing software package? Will it need to
be replaced? Will it need to be re-written to native 400? At what cost?
2) What are you spending today to keep these 436's in production?
Manpower, HW maintenance, environmentals. etc.?
3) What's your time frame to cut over to a central server? You can never
start too early but you can start too late on a project like this.
4) Can you do any software conversions/enhancements in house or must you
engage an consultant?

Just a start...

        Subject: Business replacement software..

Hello gang
We have five Advanced system 36 machines
still out in our branches, with a splendid record.
Over the past several years, and because
of the rapid acceleration in technology, the /36 solution
is becoming less and less viable.
I would very much appreciate any
suggestions you might have with respect to the replacement, both
in terms of the HW and SW.
I believe an OS400/ISeries replacement at
these remote branches would be over-kill.
A central ISeries, with the appropriate
SW, and VPN was more in line with what I had in mind...
All suggestions welcome....
TIA
