Hi, I've been following this along. Don't assume that the software tier going down will drop your packaged software costs. I recently did a 510 -> 720 swap, the software tier dropped from P30 to P20, and Infinium sent us a large bill. The software vendors are VERY aware that the software tier goes down with a bigger box nowadays and have adjusted their pricing models accordingly. I believe Infinium based this cost increase on processor feature code (CPW). I'm in a similar boat as you. My client has a 720, I very recently installed a 2761 8-line comm card for Facsimile/400. Now, I find that IBM is planning to DISABLE this card with V5R3. Not "no support", DISABLE. I'm currently campaigning to get them to NOT do this via iNation and every channel I can find. There is NO replacement (ok, don't email about the 2805, it won't work on a 720). The suggested replacement is eight (yes, that's 8) modems. I hate modems. They cause me more trouble than any other single piece of hardware. We, too, have NO NEED to upgrade. There's plenty of capacity left on this machine, at least for the forseeable future (a year or two). I've been trying to get some other IBM customers on this bandwagon (strength in numbers), but everyone just tells me to go to a PC fax solution...something I DO NOT want to do. You wouldn't happen to have a 2761 card in that 730, now would you??? Good luck. AS/Resources, Inc.
