Paul, (I'll linger for just one more post as report I worked on after posting last night seems to be okay...:-) I only belabor this OT discussion because there are an estimated 4/6/mebbe-10 millions of sufferers in the U.S. alone. Probably WAY more because, for example, they don't autopsy the driver that zones out fer a sec and crashes. In Canada, I've read, they can and DO take away driver's licenses of people with untreated Sleep Apnea. When I was first diagnosed 4/5? years ago, my O2 rate was 90% and stoppages of 17.5 per hour. You are exceedingly lucky Paul, because many (> 30-50%??) with the various uvuloplasty surgeries don't have such good success. I'm very happy for you, as well as 50-70% that have luck with CPAP...:-D But My doc could only recommend the **trachea** surgery if CPAP and BiPAP didn't work out. And said my case was so severe, he held out estimated 50% hope of success. So I didn't go back to see him for 3 years after that. (Read post of guy who was VERY enthusiastic about the trach, but followed up later with "is there an operation to undo this?"...!?!") As I noted previously my condition has gotten much worse, although Wife and I thought otherwise because I had more-or-less quit snoring. There was experimental drug going through FDA testing at John Hopkins' last year, but closest satellite testing is down in Cinci (last I heard). We'll see. ===> MAIN point is that there is NO easy way to know if you have Sleep Apnea other than getting tested, as Wife and I were stunned. Now MOST people that snore do NOT have Sleep Apnea but, as We were surprised to find, just because you don't sore doesn't NECESSARILY mean a lot. (There are, of course, a LOTTA causes for exhaustion, but..) As You said, Paul, there ARE several successful treatments for Sleep Apnea that improve quality-of-life DRAMATICALLY, as many can atest. (Btw, I have been falsely "accused" of being intelligent but I make NO such claim. I'm a heavy smoker which is probably why the CPAP doesn't work. Along those same lines?.. I actually DID sell the house and bought a 400. My natural preference is to go for quality over quantity.)
