Rob,
following that example I changed my source to be:

create view itemview ("my_Item")  as 
select 
  ITM_NUM  as Item_Number, 
  ITM_DESC as Item_Description 
  From ITEMMASTER 
--------------
then used the RUNSQL command again and got the following result:

 SQL0158  30       1  Position 1 Number of columns specified not 
consistent.
