From: Vern Hamberg [mailto:vhamberg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] >Why do you >think they are giving away Host Publisher? Cuz' it's going out the door, I >bet. The Host Access thing you saw is quite old - HATS is brand new. This is my problem with IBM's terminal-to-GUI products; IBM obsoletes them every 15 to 18 months or so. Or, if they don't obsolete them they roll out yet another way, presumably better, of doing it. How can they expect customers to roll out production apps based on technologies that will be discontinued just months after being rolled out? I'm in favor of webifying our apps to eliminate the client install requirement and to possibly eliminate the need for interactive CPW, but I don't think I could recommend IBM as a tool provider in this regard. I just can't trust the product to be supported four years down the line. We have about 1300 users dispersed around the country. New product rollout and training, even to just use a web interface, is a time-consuming and costly process. We can't afford to do it more often than once every few years. - John This e-mail is for the use of the intended recipient(s) only.
