Back in the 80s, my mother had a PO Box at the main PO in downtown Indianapolis. Someone mailed a letter to her PO box from the drop-slot in the building. It took a week to make it from the front of the building to the side where the PO boxes were. I've also seen Priority Mail take 3+ weeks. Of course, my favorite is UPS. One time I ordered books from B&N. According to the tracking detail, they went from Reno, NV to Louisville (or somethere) in Kentucky to Indianapolis to my local UPS hub in the Chicago suburbs. Then back to Indy to KY to Indy to Chicago to Indy to KY to Indy to Chicago to Indy to KY to Reno to KY to Indy to Chicago to me. Over three weeks in total. The package, when it finally arrived, was fine; no smudged barcode or anything. I had free shipping from B&N, so I couldn't complain about that, but I did let B&N know they were getting lousy service from UPS. Oh, and for those who don't know about the infamous Chicago postal workers, in recent years several postal workers have been caught leaving mail in the trunks of their cars, taking it home, etc. - John -----Original Message----- From: David Gibbs [mailto:david@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2003 11:34 AM To: midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: How to tork off a customer >You OBVIOUSLY don't know much about the Chicago post office system <grin>.
