Servlets need the J2EE servlet container to work, this is located on the web[1] server. The servlet executes on the web tier and sends regular web pages i.e. HTML[2] to the browser on the PC. Java Applets, on the other hand *are* downloaded to the PC. --phil [1] Web server + plus Application server (J2EE server such as WebSphere, Orion etc.) [2] In 95% of the time the servlet sends regular HTML to the browser. There are other cases where the servlet may send other kinds of data to an application other than a browser.
