Actually, I think the idea was that the server hadn't been touched or
serviced or maintained in any way for six years.  Two years prior, a power
out occurred.  When power was restored, the 400 came back up but the AC
didn't, so the box has been running for two years in a non-airconditioned
closet.

This is actually believable.  I've heard of companies that have been 
running
on a box for so long that nobody remembered where it was.
