I guess you never know until you try. On the advice of John Ross I
intitialized these disk units in my 170. After initializing them I was able
to add them to a parity set and an ASP. I am now balancing the data and
everything looks good so far.

So regardless of what the handbook says, these 6713's do appear to work in a
170.

Steve -

I've been doing some research this morning; I installed two of the 6713
drives in my test 170, even though they were recognized by the 170 I am not
able to do any disk functions on these. Looking through my old handbooks it
appears that 6713's and 6813's are physically the same, but the 6713's are
used with SPD controllers while the 6813's are used with PCI controllers. I
currently have drives labeled as 6817's in this 170 but they show as 6717's
in WRKDSKSTS.

So it looks like 6713's will work in systems that support the 6532 or 6533
SPD Disk Controllers, which would be at least 5xx, 6xx and 7xx models and
5052, 5055, 5057, 5058, 5082 and 5083 expansion Units.
