OK, obviously I'm the MS guy here, but let me ask a business question. Which package best solves the _business_ needs? If there is a clear winner from the business point of view then that is the way to go, regardless of technology. However, if they are both the same then you get into the technology. As I see it, here is the basic tradeoff, a single SQLServer is _much_ less reliable than a single iSeries, hands down, no argument. However, several SQLServers are much less expensive than several iSeries boxes, so it's much simpler and cheaper to throw hardware at the problem. Which is better, well I'll admit, it's a religious argument at this point -- which is better PowerPoint or Freelance, Exchange or Notes, Word or WordPerfect -- obvious answer, it depends. -Walden ------------ Walden H Leverich III President Tech Software (516) 627-3800 x11 (208) 692-3308 eFax WaldenL@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.TechSoftInc.com Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur. We are currently looking for a new ERP package to replace our current one, and the company has narrowed the field to two choices: One iSeries-based, and one SQL Server-based. Based on my experience, I have ALWAYS found the iSeries/400 to be more reliable and more scalable than SQL Server...especially in enterprise level tasks. What have your experiences been with SQL Server? How do you suggest I convince the non-tech people in the selection team? Do you know of any good reference articles comparing the two platforms? Earlier in the process, there were Unix & Oracle proposals too. Both have been sidelined for now, but feedback there would be nice as well. Thank you in advance for your assistance, David Wright _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
