One item to note: Though all of the LPAR documentation states that +/- one release is supported in an LPAR you can not (at least in a supported way) run an O/S level not supported by the processor. While the software may be capable of running +/- one release, the only hardware currently capable of +/- 1 release support is an n-way 7xx or 8xx with an I-Star processor, and those only support full processor LPARs. A Power4 processor (first with fractional LPAR and dynamic resource movement) will only run V5R2, you can't run V5R1 in an LPAR. An S-Star will run V5R1 or V5R2 only. No hardware has ever supported -1 release in a partition at its GA. I've been told that, under the current hardware, you can keep a partition + or - one release of the controlling partition. That's fine with me. Currently all of our machines are at V5R2 and will be upgraded to whatever's next as soon as we can get our hands on it.
