I am not brave enough to go without a firewall. We are in the process of
installing a new SonicWall. I have a one to one NATed address on our
network to do support with clients and also run ZoneAlarm. It seems to do a
good job too.

Steve: I have a theory that if you religously apply the updates and dont
open
attachments, then you cant be hacked and dont need a firewall. I hope
someone else can prove if that is wrong or not.

Chris: Well, in theory... Honestly, even if you get the fixes then you
could still be hacked. Generally the fixes come out because the
vulnerability is found. It couldn't be found if it weren't exploited.
Furthermore, I have been running Win2K for about 2 years now and Microsoft
has just released fixpacks for all the worm activity and hackers being
able to view contents of memory, etc... This tells me that either it's
been vulnerable for the entire life cycle of the product or it was broken
by another fix. Either case proves to me that a firewall is a great idea.
Check out www.sygate.com - they have a freeware personal firewall.

Getting this back to the iSeries, have you all installed that security
patch for iSeries?

It's called OS/400
