If you accepted defaults in the creation of your partitions, your primary
partition has a system name of Sxxxxxxx, where 'xxxxxxx' is the serial
number of your machine.  Secondary partitions are Axxxxxxx through
Zxxxxxxx (omitting the 'S').  These values can be changed using the
CHGNETA (change network attributes) command, so you really can't count on
their value, although I believe they must be unique within a machine.

IBM recommends that the partition name and the system name be the same,
although this is not required.

Because you can change the name of a secondary partition and the name of
the system, your best bet might be to standardize your system names and
use the RTVNETA command to determine which partition your program is
running on.  This way you could determine your partition within CL
programs without resorting to dedicated tools or APIs.

Apologies if I phrase this incorrectly but I am not that
technical-minded!
 
Is there a command to identify the serial number or ID of the various
LPARS configured on an iSeries?
 
I know to retrieve the serial number one keys in DSPSYSVAL QSRLNBR, is
there a similar command?
