Well, I know Unix has shared objects (.so) which are functionally equivalent to DLLs, but I don't know how powerful they were, especially back in the mid-90s. Remember, we were talking about 25MHz machines with memory measured in MB (if you were lucky), not GB. And if I remember correctly, back in those days DLL programming was pretty much a black art, and so I suspect was shared objects. I do remember that threading issues came up often in debugging sessions; maybe that was a consideration. I don't know, I deferred to the Unix experts on this stuff. Joe
