You're right Booth, most 'market research' reports do have agendas. They don't exist in a vaccuum, they make thier money from sponsors and advertisers. here is an interesting 'soul searching' editorial from computerworld about how they and other IT pubs reported a Forrester Research report exposing Linux's supposed shortcomings without question. do I need to tell you who paid for the 'research'? They're doing a little backpeddling now, but still. The mainstream IT press regularly quotes market research firms as if thier word is gospel, without questioning who sponsored the study or who the firms revenue sources are - vendors and customers. this guy gets it, but don't hold your breath waiting for the rest of the IT press to search thier own souls. http://www.computerworld.com/careertopics/careers/consulting/story/0,10801,85139,00.html?nas=MGT-85139 rick ----Booth said:------------ The author of this article is doing a lot of editorializing and not very much reporting. "We consider any system over 3 years old to be legacy..." "does anyone know where we can get VAX parts..." "No one in India will do RPG..." These quotes are not mainstream. This whole article seems written by someone with an agenda.
