Drivers? Quite likely. I've bought both a scanner and a digital camera over the past year. The scanner was too new to be recognized automatically by my (now somewhat old) RH7.3 system, but was easily handled by adding a line or two to a configuration file. For some reason, my system doesn't talk directly to my camera. But it wasn't difficult getting my system to recognize a USB CF card reader that was thrown in to the deal when I bought the camera.

It's a good idea to do a quick web search before buying any new hardware to check if what you want can run with Linux.
