This is what we get when we do a DSPTAP on our 6386 tape drive.

-- The tape may not have an IBM-standard labeled sequence if the volume

a 1/4 inch cartridge tape or an 8 millimeter cartridge tape, and the
cartridge was created on a system other than an AS/400 system.
-- The tape may contain data which was compacted and device TAP01 can
not
read compacted data if the device is a 1/2 inch cartridge tape unit.
-- The operator loaded a different volume during file processing.
-- The tape unit needs cleaning
