I've got a client using an Oracle server where each night, the Oracle box 
sends a CSV file to the 400 via FTP. My program pick up the CSV file using 
CPYFRMIMPF and places the data into a DB2/400 file. That file is then 
processed with an RPG program and places date into 5 different files. Each 
week, the user runs a program on the 400 that converts the data into a CSV 
file with CPYTOIMPF, then Ftp's the file to the Oracle server.

The answer is yes, it can be automated, and no, you don't need to use the 
IFS. ASCII to EBCDIC conversion is automatic. A server is a server.

I am hoping to initiate a process on an AS/400 running V4R5 that can
retrieve a file from an attached Windows 2000 server, process that
information  and create new files on the AS/400 and then transfer those
newly created files to the Windows 2000 server.

Do I need to go through IFS?
Can I FTP the files back and forth?  If so do I need to translate EBCDIC 
to
ASCII?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
