Allow me to rephrase:
Since your application would know where both subfiles are at all times, it
would be able to return to the "current position" without having to
remember anything else, and it would be able to go back to any previous
position that it found "noteworthy" in some way, simply by defining the
conditions by which that position is considered "noteworthy," and saving
whatever variables define that position.
Assume, for argument's sake, that we define F1=bookmark, F2=return to
bookmark, and F5=refresh screen without moving
Pseudocode:
If (AIDkey = <PgUp> or <PgDown>) then
If (CsrRow > DividingLine) then
roll lower subfile in desired direction
else roll upper subfile in desired direction
endif
redraw both subfiles
endif
If (AIDkey = <F1>) then
if (csrrow > dividing line) then
remember position of lower subfile
else remember position of upper subfile
endif
redraw both subfiles
endif
If (AIDkey = <F2>) then
if (csrrow > dividing line) then
return to remembered position of lower subfile
else return to remembered position of upper subfile
endif
redraw both subfiles
endif
If (AIDkey = <F5>) then
redraw both subfiles
endif
