Times change of course. This experience relates to a small college that was their own ISP beginning in 1993. By the time the iSeries had tcp/ip they had already had some exposure to the dangers of Internet exposure. They made the decision to put the iSeries on the Internet with its own IP and everything except email was more or less wide open. In the 8 years that I know about there never was a problem with the iSeries related to the Internet. In fact they never had any troubles with their system until they decided to use Windows servers. Even when they did have Windows server troubles the iSeries stayed up and on. This is not recommended of course but that is what they chose to do and they suffered no ill effects. --------------------------------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.MartinVT.com Booth@xxxxxxxxxxxx --------------------------------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Date: 11/14/03 13:47:19 To: midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: hosting website on iSeries? I am asking this question on behalf of a small company with a model 270. They are currently connected to their ISP with a DSL line. The ISP is hosting their website. What are the pros and cons of moving the website to the iSeries? I know that the standard recommendation is to use a separate system (or a partition) for your website, but they won't be doing that. They are considering running their whole show on just one box. Thanks in advance, -- Charly Charly Jones Gig Harbor WA 253 265-6244
