Technically, the jukebox isn't required to backup the spool files. Just software that will make sure that your spoolfile contains all necessary data, including overlays, page segments, PC generated spool files, and the like. The jukebox is just a choice of media to store it on. Perhaps the software you looked at only supported the jukebox. That was all the rage when it came to storing image files awhile back. One feature being that it could be legally proven that an image file could be written to it, and not modified after original creation to 'modify' some report data. I had suggested that we might not be able to retrieve the deleted spool files. The PM contends that he has restored QSPL before, IBM is very iffy about this procedure. Just wanted to know if there was any truth to the suggestion. Unfortunately this is a situation where the users are not ready to lay out the money for a reasonable jukebox for backing spool files to, and when they are not available, it becomes mission-critical.
