Technically, if they end up in a roadside ditch, they can track the 
original owner and ding you for the haz mat disposal.  I hear that some 
areas are getting real picky on this.  To combat this there are some 
companies that are making their living handling your obsolete equipment. 
To either resell it or, failing that,  environmentally dispose of it.
