If you buy a new iSeries that comes bundled with an IxS, your costs should be limited to Windows + AV software. If not, add a couple thousand $ for the card & some RAM. What about a Linux partition-based AV solution? Anyone tried that? Have Linux NFS mount the IFS (or an equivalent) and use Linux-based AV software to scan. -----Original Message----- From: rob@xxxxxxxxx [mailto:rob@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, January 30, 2004 7:48 AM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: RE: Scanning the iSeries (IFS) for Viruses Don't know the costs. But we have 5 of them loaded into 1 of our iSeries. That virtual lan is sweet! Scanning from a PC out on the network is 'workable', but numerous problems are overcome by having an iSeries native solution running instead. What I've been most curious about is the result of running scanning from an integrated Windows card. This would be an intermediate level between those extremes. Communication should/could then be via the internal 'virtual LAN'. I haven't seen comments from anyone that indicated that configuration. What's the cost nowadays to use such a card?
