Duh ! ! ! I just hooked it up the to 810 and it works GREAT. I am SO used to having worked with 3490, 3590, etc. at a previous employer and NEVER liked the 9427 from the day I got here. Then when I got the 7408 loaner and it was doing such a major compaction in comparison to the 9427 I figured it was radically different technology. Might be but still compatible with older tapes - awesome ! Thanks so much, my day just got MUCH easier. This list is AWESOME, once again ! Paul, You mean read the 8mm tapes saved by the 9427 via the 7208 ? Does the 7208 read the tapes OK? If so, you should be able to hook up the 7208 to the 810 and use the DUPTAP command. Hi Folks, Getting to deep six our 620 (at V4R5) and I ALMOST spaced a bunch of tapes that need to be "converted". The 620 uses the IBM 9427-210 Cartridge Tape Subsystem which is 8mm. The 810 (at V5R2) has the (FANTASTIC) IBM 3581-H23 Tape Unit. Neither will work on the other. BUT I have an IBM 7208 8mm loaner tape unit that will work on both so that is how I got data off of the 620 and onto the 810. My "dilemma" is we have a bunch of "historical" 8mm tapes that contain stuff that is no longer on the 620, or has been updated, etc. So I am going to have to restore it on the 620 via the 9427 and then save them on the 7208, then hook it up to the 810 and restore it there and then save it off on the 3581. So my question is, is does anyone know of a service out there that could convert 8mm tapes to 3581 cartridges ? Thanks !
