CRTDEVPRT DEVD(PRT0250B) DEVCLS(*LAN) TYPE(3812) MODEL(1) + LANATTACH(*USRDFN) PORT(9101) ATTACH(*DIRECT) FONT(11 + *NONE) FORMFEED(*CONT) INACTTMR(*SEC15) + TRANSFORM(*YES) MFRTYPMDL(*EPFX870) PPRSRC1(*CONT80) + ASCII899(*NO) IMGCFG(*NONE) RMTLOCNAME('10.0.0.250') + USRDRVPGM(PRTDRVXT/TSPLPRD) TEXT('Forms Printer via + TCP')
Note this has the printer in Epson emulation mode. Okidata should work but I never had success with three different models now.
Also, the USRDRVPGM enables the page range and such missing from RMTOUTQ. I originally received it from a nice IBM'er in the V4 days when all the languages weren't bundled. It is a C program in the current free QUSRTOOL that you can compile for yourself.
I have a dumb question.
We just installed an Okidata ML491 printer. It's attached to an HP JetDirect 500X external print server which is network attached to the iSeries. It's currently set up as a remote writer, working fine, but it would be better if it could be set up as a local printer because nontechie users will be moving printouts around, etc. and they're accustomed to seeing 'devices'.
The JetDirect supports SNMP. According to IBM Supportline, we can't set this as a *IBMSNMPDRV local device because the Okidata itself doesn't support SNMP. I thought that the fact the _print server_ supported SNMP took care of that. Am I wrong?
The JetDirect also supports IPP. Does that mean we could set it up as *IBMIPPDRV? Or, again, does the printer have to support it also? This starts to get complicated because there are internal and external print servers available and I just thought that's where the intelligence was for this . . .
I need duct tape to keep my head from exploding. Is it Friday yet?
