We have had a similar situation. The user is in the middle of a program and closes the session without signing off (probably because they are waiting on a locked record). The system expends lots of resources trying to reconnect until we ultimately kill the disconnected job. It doesn't happen very often but I'd rather it not happen at all. I was going to approach our situation from the angle of trying to find out what was causing the lock in the first place so that they wouldn't have to close the window. I also want to avoid teaching them to do a SYSREQ-2 to kill the request. I doubt if there's anything that you can do to keep them from clicking on the X to close the window since that's a Window's function. Even if you could they could still launch the Task Manager and kill it that way. The extreme example would be what my 2-year old does--just push the power button and shut the PC off without exiting or shutting down anything. Who's problem is it now? IBM? Microsoft? The PC manufacturer? The power company??? Does anyone have a way to stop the use of the 'X' except at the signon display. I really think IBM should be handling this since it is a client access session.
