Expired files won't care if you overwrite them, they will care if you try to
write with SEQNBR(*END) - leaving an expired file at the beginning of the
tape.  If the first part of the save has ENDOPT(*UNLOAD) and the second part
has SEQNBR(*END) this could happen.  There is a slight possibility that the
first part of the save takes up exactly one tape and forces the unload, but
I wouldn't think that would be very probable.

I'm grasping at straws here, if you have a joblog you could send it to me
offline and I'd be happy to take a look at it.

Yes the expiration dates for all parts of the save match.  It is 
calculated at the beginning of the save.  It's not like we calculate it 
before each sav... command.  I could see where that might cause you grief 
if the save spanned midnight.
