I can speak from experience: having written FTP clients for our
installers, and an FTP client that's part of our ThinView product, I've
had to code what ultimately gets sent to the server, in both active and
passive modes. It's not the same as what you type on the command line of
the Windoze FTP client, any more than it's the same as the mouse gestures
you give, for example, to Fetch (an excellent shareware MacOS FTP client,
the one I use to load pages into my web site).
